Description

The image of sacred Buddhist triad connotes the famous sculpted sanzon of Amida, Kannon and Seishi in Zenkō-ji in today's Nagano City - a pilgrimage destination in Shinano (formerly Shinshū) Province.  The inscription in Chinese characters above the nehan-zu reads: "In ancient times in E'shū  Province on the Kotagahama shore there appeared the lofty Buddha Śākyamuni, who entered into nirvana, and the living Amida, equally gives his blessing to every living creature  throughout samsara." One seal with a figural representation of Amida sanzon and the other with Chinese characters accompanies the inscription. The inscription below the nehan-zu reads: "Shinshū Zenkō-ji".
